Who is GFSI?
Global Food Safety Initiative
Global Food Safety Initiative The Global Food Safety Initiative is a coalition of action from The Consumer Goods Forum that collaborates around the world to ensure safe food for everyone. GFSI brings together retailers and manufacturers from across the globe along with an extended community of food safety professionals to oversee food safety standards for businesses.
What do they do?
Strengthen and harmonize food safety systems through public-private partnerships
The Global Food Safety Initiative focuses their work on benchmarking food safety systems with a vision that will ensure:
Consumers everywhere will be confident that the food they eat and feed their families is safe.
Producers at each step of the food chain will understand their responsibilities to food safety.
Small producers and food facilities can grow their business by meeting standards.
Food safety auditors and inspectors are consistent, and systems and processes that provide controls and assurance on food safety are efficient and eliminate duplication.
GFSI is driving improvements in food safety and their efforts build food safety capabilities across the global food supply chain. They work to ensure best-practice knowledge sharing exists to advance food safety.
How to implement
Achieving a GFSI recognized certificate
The Global Food Safety Initiative does not provide certification. They provide benchmarked requirements that several certification programs meet. Retailers and other buyers around the world trust GFSI – recognized certification as a mark of the highest food safety standards. This allows businesses around the world access to a global market.
To achieve GFSI recognized certification, a company must successfully undergo a third-party audit authorized by the GFSI Program.
