Organic : A federal regulatory program that develops and enforces consistent national standards for organically produced agricultural products.

Organic is a labeling term that indicates that a food has been produced through approved methods. The organic standards describe specific requirements that must be verified by a USDA accredited certifying agent before products can be labeled USDA Organic.

The National Organic Program (NOP) provides guidance, instructions, and policy memos that assist those who own, manage, or certify organic operations. The NOP strives to ensure uniformity in the development, issuance, use of guidance, instruction and other documents related to the accreditation and enforcement activities.

The NOP also accredits third-party organizations to certify that farms and businesses meet the national organic standards. The certifiers and the USDA work together to enforce the standards and protect the integrity of the USDA Organic Seal.

A certifying body may be found here. Upon choosing the certifying body, Safe Food Resources will work with you to develop your programs to meet the standards.

"SFR was the partner Wausau Container needed! Vicky and her team’s expertise in all elements of food safety allowed us to build a food safety program that fit so we can confidently say what we do and do what we say. Their ongoing involvement with the program assures that our policies and processes are always up to date and their elearning courses (developed specifically for our processes by the way!) have made organizing and performing training easy. I’d recommend Vicky and her team to anyone. Thank you SFR!"
